DJI and the FCC Covered List (2026): What US Buyers Can Still Purchase
Search "is DJI banned" and you get a wall of headlines. This guide separates what the FCC has actually done from what is only proposed, lists the DJI models that remain legal to buy and fly in the United States, and explains how ASI Computer handles US and Canadian orders.

The short version
- December 23, 2025: the FCC added all foreign-produced uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS) and certain UAS critical components to its Covered List after the audit required by the FY2025 National Defense Authorization Act was never completed. DJI was not singled out; every foreign drone maker was affected.
- What that does: new device models cannot receive FCC equipment authorization, so they cannot be imported, marketed or sold in the US. The FCC's own FAQ states the action "does not prohibit the import, sale, or use of any existing device models the FCC previously authorized."
- What it does not do: it does not ground drones you already own, cancel warranties, or stop dealers from selling previously authorized models.
- August 3, 2026: two FCC bureaus opened PS Docket 26-189 asking whether to go further and prohibit the sale of certain previously authorized "military-grade" UAS — broadly, aircraft with thermal imaging, LiDAR, or a take-off weight above 55 lb. Comments closed September 2, 2026. As of this writing no final order has been issued.
Which DJI products remain available in the US
Any DJI model that had FCC equipment authorization before December 23, 2025 is still legal to import, sell, buy and fly. That covers the large majority of the current lineup that ASI Computer stocks for US delivery:

Which DJI products are Canada-only at ASI Computer
Products launched after the Covered List action could not obtain FCC authorization and therefore skipped the US market. At ASI Computer these are sold and shipped within Canada only:
- DJI Lito 1 and DJI Lito X1 (2026 consumer drones)
- Osmo Pocket 4 (2026 gimbal camera)
Each of these product pages carries a US availability notice. If you are in the US and were considering the Lito X1, the DJI Mini 5 Pro or DJI Air 3S are the closest authorized alternatives; for the Osmo Pocket 4, the Osmo Pocket 3 remains available.
The August 2026 proposal, explained
The Public Safety and Homeland Security Bureau and the Office of Engineering and Technology asked for comment on whether the Commission should prohibit the import, marketing or sale of a subset of already-covered devices it describes as military-grade. Press coverage of the notice identifies three characteristics of concern: thermal imaging payloads, LiDAR sensors (including the small LiDAR modules used for obstacle sensing on the Air 3S, Mini 5 Pro and Avata 360), and aircraft heavier than 55 lb such as AGRAS and FlyCart.
Three things are worth keeping in mind:
- A public notice is a request for comment, not a rule. Nothing changed for buyers on August 3.
- If an order is adopted, it would apply prospectively to import, marketing and sale — the FCC has consistently said that devices already in consumers' hands may continue to be used.
- DJI has said it would challenge any such order in federal court, and the docket drew a very large volume of opposing comments. The outcome and timing are genuinely uncertain.
ASI Computer's policy is simple: we ship to the US only what is lawful to ship on the day the order is placed, and we tell you before you pay if a model's status has changed.
What this means for Enterprise and public-safety buyers
For federal agencies and contractors, existing procurement restrictions (the American Security Drone Act, agency-specific policies) already limited DJI purchases before 2025 and are unaffected by the FCC action. State and local agencies should check their own state's rules — several states have manufacturer restrictions with grant conditions attached. Where a DJI platform is permitted, the DJI Matrice 4T, DJI Matrice 350 RTK and DJI Matrice 400 remain FCC-authorized as of this writing; our Enterprise page explains how we quote configured systems.
Because Blue UAS-listed and Buy-American-compliant systems are exempted from the Covered List until January 2027 (and conditional approvals began on March 17, 2026), some organisations are running mixed fleets. If you need a non-DJI option for a specific contract, tell us; we will say so plainly if we cannot supply it.

Checklist before you order
- Confirm the model is on the "available in the US" list above (or ask us — we answer within one business day).
- Register the aircraft with the FAA if it weighs 250 g or more, and confirm Remote ID compliance (standard on current DJI models).
- Commercial operators: hold a Part 107 certificate; agricultural spraying also needs Part 137.
- Verify the dealer. ASI Computer is listed on DJI's Enterprise dealer locator; be cautious of marketplace sellers offering Canada-only models for US delivery.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it illegal to fly a DJI drone in the United States?
No. The FCC Covered List restricts equipment authorization for new models. It does not prohibit owning, flying or selling any model the FCC previously authorized. Normal FAA rules (registration, Remote ID, Part 107 for commercial work) continue to apply.
Can I still buy a DJI Mini 5 Pro or Air 3S in the US?
Yes, as of September 2026. Both received FCC authorization before December 23, 2025 and remain legal to import and sell. The FCC has proposed, but not adopted, a retroactive prohibition on some LiDAR- and thermal-equipped models; we will update this guide if the proposal becomes an order.
Which DJI products are NOT available in the US?
Models launched after December 23, 2025 without prior FCC authorization — for example the DJI Lito 1, Lito X1 and Osmo Pocket 4. ASI Computer supplies these to Canadian customers only.
Will my DJI warranty still be honored?
Yes. DJI continues to provide warranty service and DJI Care Refresh for authorized products purchased from authorized dealers such as ASI Computer.
